Every country has its own rules and regulations for granting visa to the partners/spouses of the immigrants.

New Zealand also has set rules and procedures for allowing the partners of the immigrants who are currently staying in the country, to come and live with their loved ones. That’s why there are different categories of visa, which are applicable to such people.

The visa mentioned above can be referred as “Partner Visa”. The definition of partner accepted for these visas is as follows:

     1) Legally wedded OR

      2) Civil Union OR

     3) A de facto relationship.

For making application in any of the partner visas, the applicant has to prove that the relationship is genuine and stable with some substantial proofs.

1. Partner of a Student Visitor Visa: All those, whose partners are studying in New Zealand with a valid student visa, can apply for this visitor visa.

2. Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa: All those, whose partners are either citizens or residents of New Zealand, can apply for this residence visa.

3. Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa: All those, whose partners are either citizens or residents of New Zealand, can apply for this visitor visa.

4. Partner of a Worker Work Visa: All those, whose partners are working in New Zealand with a valid work visa, can apply for this work visa.

5. Partner of a Student Work Visa: All those, whose partners are studying in New Zealand with a valid student visa, can apply for this work visa.

6. Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa: All those, whose partners are working in New Zealand with a valid work visa, can apply for this visitor visa.

7. Partner of a Worker Work Visa: All those, whose partners are working in New Zealand with a valid work visa, can apply for this work visa.

8. Partner of a New Zealand Aid Student Work Visa: All those, whose partners are in New Zealand with a valid Aid Student visa, can apply for this work visa.

9. Partner of Military Visitor Visa: All those, whose partners are working as military personnel in New Zealand, can apply for this visitor visa.

10. Partner of Military Work Visa: All those, whose partners are working as military personnel in New Zealand, can apply for this work visa.

Visa Application

You need to apply for the visa via online or offline mode as the case may be and also provide documents supporting your information.

Documents

The documents required vary for different visa types but medical and character certificates are applicable under all cases.

Education certificates and experience certificates can be required in certain cases, depending on the visa type and the applicant.

Employment offer from an employer in New Zealand needs to be presented only if you have one.

Benefits and restrictions of Partner Visa

There are different benefits and restrictions linked to different types of partner visa, which can be shown as below:

1. Partner of a Student Visitor Visa

          1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s visa remains valid.

          2) Study for 3 months in New Zealand. You can apply for this visa at the same time when your partner has applied for a student visa but your visa would be approved only if and after your partner’s visa gets approved. Thus, you and your partner can embark for New Zealand together.

          3) You cannot work over there as this is a visitor visa.

2. Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa

       1) Live, study and work in New Zealand indefinitely.

       2) You can also include your dependent children who are aged 24 and below in your application.

3. Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for up to 24 months.

       2) Study in New Zealand for up to 3 months..

       3) You cannot work over there as this is a visitor visa.

4. Partner of a Worker Work Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s work visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months.

       3) Work in New Zealand; you need not have a job offer from New Zealand prior to applying.

       4) You cannot apply if your partner has a work visa of certain categories or is working over there in certain occupations.

5. Partner of a Student Work Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s student visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) Work in New Zealand; you need not have a job offer from New Zealand prior to applying.

6. Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s work visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) You cannot work over there as this is a visitor visa.

       4) You cannot apply if your partner has a work visa of certain categories or is working over there in certain occupations.

7. Partner of a Worker Work Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s work visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) Work in New Zealand; you need not have a job offer from New Zealand prior to applying

       4) You cannot apply if your partner has a work visa of certain categories or is working over there in certain occupations.

8. Partner of an New Zealand Aid Student Work Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s New Zealand Aid Student visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) Work in New Zealand; you need not have a job offer from New Zealand prior to applying.

       4) You cannot apply if your partner’s visa is meant for taking part in a Short-Term Training Award, New Zealand Regional Development Scholarship or English Language Training for Officials scholarship programme.

9. Partner of Military Visitor Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s military visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) You cannot work over there as this is a visitor visa.

10. Partner of Military Work Visa

       1) Stay in New Zealand for as long as your partner’s military visa remains valid.

       2) Study for up to 3 months

       3) Work in New Zealand; you need not have a job offer from New Zealand prior to applying.

       4) Applying for this visa is free.

Certain important points to be considered
1. Financial condition:

       It is very important to convince the authorities that you are either financially capable of supporting yourself and your dependants (if they are accompanying you) or your partner has sufficient funds to support you and your dependents (if they are accompanying you), through documents such as bank statements, tax returns, investment certificates.
