Denmark Visa Exemptions

1. Citizens of the EU, EEA and Nordia can enter and work in Denmark for an unlimited period of time.

2. Denmark is a part of the Schengen Area and hence nationals of other countries of this area can come here without a visa and stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

3. Nationals of some other countries are also exempted from visa requirements and also diplomatic and official passport holders of some of the countries are exempted from visa requirements.

Denmark Visa Requirements

Individuals not falling under any of the above mentioned categories are required to obtain a visa in order to come to Denmark.

Visa Types

Visa for Denmark is granted only for short-term visits and is known as Short-Stay Visa.It is issued for all kinds of purposes such as –

Having the validity of 1 to 5 years,it allows you to stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. You can also travel to other member countries of the Schengen area within this stay period.The visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry.

Another way by which visa can be categorized is as below:

Residence Permit

EU, EEA and Swiss nationals have to apply for a residence permit if they plan to stay in the country for more than 6 months.

And other foreign nationals have to obtain a residence permit if they want to stay in Denmark for longer than 3 months i.e. 90 days.

How to applyDenmark Visa?

If you wish to stay for maximum 3 months in Denmark, you only need to apply for a visa but if you wish to stay longer than that, you have to apply for both visa and a residence permit.

Visa

You can submit a visa application at the Danish embassy or diplomatic mission located in your country of residence. In the absence of the Danish mission in your country of residence, you can submit the application at the diplomatic mission of other Schengen country in your nation.

Documents

The following documents are necessary to apply for a visa.

Certain additional documents are also required depending on the specific type of visa you have applied for. Few of them can be stated as below:

Residence Permit

Non-EU nationals are required to apply for residence permit at least 3 months before arriving in Denmark. And students are especially recommended to apply at least 4 months before arrival.

You can apply for a residence permit at the Danish embassy or consulate in your home country and it is necessary that you should have been living there legally for the three months preceding the date of application.

Approval
Visa

If the application has been filed in the Danish mission, it can take up to 15 days to get approved. In some cases, it can take longer as well.

If it is made with any other diplomatic mission, it can take up to 30 days for approval.

However, some visa applications can even take up to 60 days for getting approved.

Residence Permit

It takes about 3 months to get the residence permit and in some cases, it can even take longer. Hence, you should apply well in advance.

Work Permit

If you have a work visa, you must avail work permit before beginning to work in Denmark. You or your representatives living in Denmark can apply for a work permit on your behalf. The application should be made at least 3 months before arriving in the country.

Extension of Stay
Citizenship

To avail the citizenship of Denmark, you have to fulfill various conditions. The basic requirement is to live in the country for a specific number of years and having a permanent residence permit. Financial sufficiency and character requirements are also taken into account.
